My boyfriend was never fat, except when he was a baby, and he's a basketball player so he's always been in shape with an amount of muscles because he lifted weights from time to time and he's had 6 packs and built arms ever since I fist met him. For the last month or so he's been seriously working on his muscles because the basketball season is off right now. He's gotten alot bigger and the change was noticeable especially at first. What we don't understand is why his skin is not tight enough. It's smooth and stretches really well but it can be pulled. What I know is that as you start building muscles you loose all the fat and there is no chance of pulling skin anywhere. Is there a reason for that? Is it normal? And how can he get rid of this? Suggest anything. Also, he doesn't eat enough and I keep telling him to but all he eats is his 3 meals and protein drinks. He doesn't have healthy snacks. He's 143 lbs and 5'7...
Extra Skin?!?
Skin stretches and expands to fit the body envelope, whether that's because body fat deposits get bigger or muscles get bigger.
Building muscle doesn't necessarily get rid of fat. You can have a lot of both...just look at most NFL linemen.
If he has a lot of muscle, at 5'7" and 143 lbs, he should be fairly fit. But if he wants to look like a bodybuilder (super ripped), he'll need to drop his body fat percentage. As a rough guess (without properly measuring him), he's probably around 15% body fat now. He'll want to get down to 10% if he just wants to look great.
For most sports, including basketball, being generally fit is more important than having tight skin.
