Dog hair loss and hard skin around the area?
It may be caused by Mange.

Mange is an irritation of the skin, primarily resulting in hair loss and sometimes including itching and inflammation, all of which are caused by microscopic mites. Mange is most commonly found in dogs and other canines, but it can occur in other domestic and wild animals, and occasionally in humans.

The mites embed themselves in the hair follicles or skin, depending on the type, making both detection and treatment difficult. The condition can be treated with parasiticidal shampoo, topical or oral medication, or injections, but it takes time and patience for repeated applications, and almost always requires veterinary care.

I wish you and your dog all the best. I own a Chihuahua as well.
Reply:Sounds like ringworm. Talk to your vet.
Reply:I'm not sure but my neighbor has an old dog no teeth with the same thing only it covers about 60% of her body. and all the poor thing does is SCRATCH SCRATCH SCRATCH. It wallows on the gravel and sits on its butt and rotates around in a circle on the rocks so it can scratch its butt. It has big chunks of thick hard skin all over it. The vet said it has some kind of dermatitis problem and to soak in Epsom's salt every day.
Reply:Are there other dogs in the house or cats? Sounds like it could be from a bite from another animal. If you think it is something else, have the vet check it out.
Reply:could be ringworm or mange! take it in to get checked!! both can get serious!!
Reply:to avoid this problem in your pet.visit

Reply:Could be a "hot spot", could be ringworm, could be allergy, could be a lot of things which is why it would be good to take her to the vet to get the right treatment for whatever is causing the problem. GL with your chihuahua.
Reply:your dog might have a skin condition, my small dog had that and two months ago, i changed the shampoo and got him conditioner and that fixed it! Your dog can be allergic to his soap!
