I am 21 years old. I weigh 145 and I am 5'1. I just recently lost 45 pounds. My lower stomach and around my belly button looks like I am going to have extra skin once I reach my goal weight (120-125). My belly button doesn't look tight and when I sit down I can see little wrinkles. Is there ANY way I could lose the extra pounds and not have any loose skin? I would like answers from people with experience! Thank You!.
Will I have loose skin after I reach my goal weight and my body fat is at a normal level?
You are young, so you will be just fine. Just make sure that you are exercising as you lose your weight. Sometimes if you lose weight very quickly you will notice that the skin won't be as tight as it once was. Since you are young everything should go back into place. Keep up your good work, keep exercising to tone yourself up, and stick to a sensible diet. Slowing down the weight loss will give your skin more of a chance to go back to its normal tone. When I was your age I was able to lose 60 pounds. I did it slowly by making smarter food choices and I exercised all the time. Everything went back into its place. It took time and work. You should be very proud of yourself. Congratulations on your weight loss success!
Reply:I seriously doubt it. You weren't that heavy and you are young. Your skin will snap back. Loose skin happens on old people (30s-40s+) with emormous amounts of weight. Like 200 lbs.
Reply:Unless you lose hundreds of pounds, it will stetch back to it's original shape with exercise in a while.
Reply:use creams on your skin every night like cocoa butter, this will help smooth your skin. start working out more and work on toning rather than weight loss, you should cycle between toning and losing. Rapid weight loss isnt good for you anyhow.
Reply:Considering that you are 21, it will probably tighten back up. It takes longer for your skin to shrink than it does for you to lose fat. It will be fine.
Reply:I've heard that only happens when there is an extreme instance of weight gain to weight loss. With your age and the numbers you've given, I don't see that happening to you. Read about it here:

Reply:you will have loose skin but at your age not much.. check out Plastic surgery before and after or DR 90210 on TV.. many people have to get cut after loosing 20 or more lbs.
Reply:Well....a way to prevent it is that....when u exercise some people do get the extra skin but if you drink skim milk daily it tightens the skin and makes it so u dont have the extra skin hang ....and not 2% or 1% but SKIM MILK....lol..good luck...cuz after all the hard work of losing weight its just dissapointing to know thhat u have that left..so good luck
Reply:if youre only 21, and just loosing 20-25 lbs., the skin should become firm again. at your age, the skin still has a lot of elasticity. what may cause skin to sag is if you lost the weight extremely fast, or if you were grossly overweight (which you werent). the best way to avoid the sag is to lose the weight slowly(1-1 1/2 lb. per week is best), and to keep your muscles toned, to keep your stomach small by reducing the amount consumed at each meal (you might have to eat smaller but more frequent meals), and to keep your skin firm, it needs to be well hydrated by drinking plenty of water. exposure to UV rays and smoking both cause skin to lose elasticity.
1) lose the weight slowly
2)eat small meals (5-6 small as opposed to 3 large)
3)do muscle firming and toning exercises
4)dont smoke, and dont lay in the sun
5)drink plenty of water
Reply:145 is actually healthy for 5' 1". Especially for a woman,
which I ain't. However, I have lots of female friends and relatives, (doesn't everybody?) and many of them have faced similar issues, and talk about them, and I listen.
Also I have some medical background, and the physical training I got in basic training included issues like this.
The skin is loose only for a little while, and then if you have done a crash diet and lost a lot of weight at once. I can see where 190 would be unhealthy for somebody your height. Even my height of 6' 1" would be pushing it. 145 is an excellent weight.
And your health is going to affect your appearance more than the other way around.
What you need to do now, is take the current weight as a plateau, and take the time to level off and slow down a bit.
The other thing is that your abdominal muscles aren't tight, which affects the skin. The little pouch effect is really not fat, just loose muscle. Sit ups are a way of tightening them.
Also walking, doesn't have to be extremely fast but walking a lot actually uses the big muscles in the buttocks and thighs and calves as kind of an auxiliary to your heart, they actually pump blood as well.
Which takes an extra bit of strain off the heart.
Congratulations on losing a full third of your body mass.
Now the secret is to take it slooowwwww...
Take the extra time to contemplate how good you feel and look, (of course, it will take away from the time you had budgeted for worrying, but hey, we all gotta make some sacrifice) and figure (bad pun) out where you want to go with the rest of it.
Keep up the good work.
