For you larger ladies.....what do you do for swelling...my feet look like bear's claws and the skin is tight!

I have been sitting all day studying and my feet are killing me. They are EXTREMELY SWOLLEN, and they hurt so bad. To top it all off, my toes itch, and I can't reach them!!! Woe is me!!!

For you larger ladies.....what do you do for swelling...my feet look like bear's claws and the skin is tight!
Drink half your weight in filtered water in ounces. For example, if you weigh 180 pounds drink 90 ounces of filtered water a day. Half of that before noon and then the other half over the rest of the day. (not much at night unless you want to be up at night!) Sounds strange to drink when you are swollen but maybe your hyration is off so your body is retaining lots because it thinks you aren't going to give it much.)

Secondly, immobility really hurts our circulation. If you have been sitting for long periods of time you have to get up and move, walk, or at the very least tighten your calves and move your feet and ankles in rotation as well as up and down movements while you are sitting, regularly (like every ten minutes.) The muscles in your calves and feet help pump the blood (the water) and thus helps us establish balance.

Good luck with your studies.
Reply:i am not large but my father was u need to drink some water and get up and move around a bit if u dont move for a long preiod of time this will cause that to happen
Reply:I am not large, but when I was pregnant with both of my kiddos, I had terrible problems with swelling feet. I had packed a pair of tube socks for the delivery room - trying to be prepared... never used anything in that bag. haha - anyhoo - I was home and still swollen after the baby was born and my feet were cold. I slept in those tube socks which were snug on my feet and calves... the next day the swelling was down by half. This may not be medically sound, but it worked for me. Good luck

Reply:I'm a nurse, and what we do for people with swollen feet/ankles at the hospital is encourage them to elevate them. Above the heart if possible. It makes a world of difference. When you sit and they are hanging down all of the extra fluid in your body goes to the lowest, most dependent part, your feet/ankles. The fluid has a hard time working against gravity to pump it back up and into your circulation again. Another thing that works well are called TED hose. These are very heavy, stretch stockings...they come in multiple sizes and are either knee high or thigh high. You may need someone's help to get them on though. But really, the most important thing is to elevate them whenever you can...it should help with the pain and tight skin too. You might want to see a doctor too, if things don't improve...he may want to prescribe a water pill to help you get rid of excess water or run some other tests.. Good luck to you! I hope this helps.
