Help with toenail that is is curved to much on sides and cuts in to skin.?

My toenail on both of my big toes curve to much on the outer edges. They cut into my skin and cause severe pain. I really can't afford to go to the doctor. I currently use tweasers to lift the toenail slightly and cut back the toenail with clippers but it is excruciating pain, but relief is immediate after I get it cut. It there anyway to stop this from happening. I don't where highheels or tight shoes that might cause this to happen, I've been this way for as long as I can remember and I'm just tired of the pain.

The biggest thing to remember when cutting your toenails is to cut straight across, do not follow the curve of the toe. This helps to prevent the nail from growing into the skin. Also, until the nail grows out a little bit try putting a little piece of cotton under both sides of the nail to help pull the nail out of the inflammed skin. Hope you toes feel better soon!
Reply:ask family members if they have the same problem, more then likely there are family members w/the same problem and its all genetics.
Reply:you have ingrown toenails. you have to go to the doc and have them cut, facts of life....stuff like this happens. if you dont, you can get a serious infection (especially using your own unsanitized tweezers and clippers, yikes) and you will be in even more pain and will DEFINETLY have to go to the doc then. They cut them enough so that it wont keep happening.
Reply:First cut your nail carefully from the sides. Then Look for dirt in your nail, it causes trouble. Remove all the dirt as quickly as you can but be careful.
Reply:The skin that your nail is cutting into is probably dead now. Take toenail clippers and clip away at the dead skin arond the ingrown area (it wont hurt...promise) so that the nail can grow uninterrupted. Then clip the nail strang across (evenly) and wait for it to grow.
Reply:Try going barefoot 24/7. I do and I have 0 foot problems.
